WHY I AM A UNITED WAY

VOLUNTEER

I am Mike Budnick, a United Way of Franklin County Board Member. I believe in making the community in which I live a better place for all. Because communities are better able to match resources with requirements, I believe local involvement is more effective than services offered by outside sources. I believe assistance efforts should provide a “hand up” to those in need. I believe in activities that build character and self-reliance. And, I believe in measures that lay the foundation for an improved future. The United Way provides the opportunity and the methodology to put my beliefs into action in a meaningful way.

GIVE.

The workplace campaign is the easiest and most powerful

way to invest in your community. You can support our

action areas —Education, Income, and Health—through

our partner agencies. Each gift is valuable to our

community.

ADVOCATE.

You can make change happen with your voice. Get

informed. Tell your friends. Write a letter to the editor.

Unites Way needs people who are passionate about

education, income, and health to make some noise.

LIVE UNITED.

HOW I LIVE UNITED

I am Alan Cleek, a United Way of Franklin County Board Member. I work at the hospital in the inpatient geriatric unit. I have seen countless patients in need of assistance from community resources, supported in part by donations to United Way of Franklin County. In my role as a social worker, I am very much aware of these United Way partner agencies. I know how to integrate their care and support into the discharge plan of individuals and families in need.

On one occasion, the Lord put an idea in my heart to inquire about assistance from Habitat for Humanity for a local couple. I assisted them in completing an application for a Habitat house, and a little over a year later, they moved into their new home. Because of this United Way partner agency, their lives were changed. I have also made referrals to Haven of Hope, which were instrumental in getting abused women out of their dangerous environments and setting the course to alter their family dynamics.

Each agency adds tremendous value to the human experience. I have been touched deeply by the compassion that I see these agencies provide everyday, to “everyday” people. People are always looking for the BIG MIRACLE that seems to never happen. I want to be an individual that sees LITTLE MIRACLES happen everyday. These miracles are out there, and being a part of United Way brings that fact to light daily.

I am a faithful supporter of United Way. Not much can really be accomplished by my contribution or service alone, but my gifts are magnified when other are involved. United Way is a blessing to me because I know that donations are used directly in support of my own personal idea that we should help our fellow man. I believe that United Way is the best opportunity to make a difference in other peoples’ lives. I feel so blessed and honored to be able to serve my community through United Way.
