Stuff-the-Bus Saturday, July 17

The 3rd annual United Way of Franklin County (UWFC) “Stuff the Bus” school supplies drive will start June 25 and conclude July 17th.  This event will help to ensure local children in need with school supplies to assist them throughout the school year.  This very worthy community activity produced over 6,500 donated supplies last year as the tremendous participation continued.  “It is great to see the community working toward a common goal – helping local children”, said Jeannie Amacher, UWFC Executive Director.

“Stuff the Bus” drop boxes will be placed in area businesses June 25 through July 17 for the convenience of dropping off supplies.  These drop sites include: CVS Pharmacy, Dollar General (both Decherd and Cowan Hwy. locations), Food Lion, Kroger, South Central Human Resources and Wal-Mart.

If everyone would simply pick up a pack of crayons, pencils, or other school supplies (see list below) on their way to the checkout and drop them in the collection box at these locations, it would make a huge difference.

On the drive’s final day, Franklin County residents can “Stuff the Bus” again this year at the Winchester Wal-Mart Supercenter from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.  Donated school supplies will then be delivered to area schools for distribution to students.

If you are interested in helping with this wonderful community project, volunteer positions are available.   For information, call the United Way office at 931-962-0103.

Our annual Dogwood 100 bike ride was held on April 24.  Unfortunately the weather refused to cooperate.  Severe storms restricted participation as less than 30 intrepid soles braved the elements.  Hopefully, next year’s event will experience more favorable conditions.

We are grateful to our sponsors and the participants.  Watch this website and Dogwood100.org for details on the 2011 event.
